I have one confidence in me as an active follower of Ghana`s showbiz industry and that is the admission that, as much as the music awards schemes in Ghana survive, the music industry will also stay. Just like that statement, when the last tree dies, the last man also dies. This is because one needs the other to survive as parasites do. Owing to this understanding, i always pray for all awards schemes in Ghana to strive whilst finding ways to build the other structures making the music industry foundation weak. (REST IN PEACE WILLI ROI)
I woke up thinking about why i feel the VGMA is on the low ebb this year as there seems to be no talk about it in the media space and i was reminded that its because the talking points have not been given to the “noise makers” yet so as and when it goes out to them, we will hear all salvos being fired from left, right and centre. They say it pays to wait so let`s find something else doing whilst we wait. My curiosity took me around town and i got some whispers that all things being equal, the final nominations will be put out on 8th March 2019. I pray it happens because the silence seems louder than i can imagine. Meanwhile, some top information www.sammyflex.com is gathering has it that the board is having a difficult time with the nominations this year because the artistes really put in greater works with their songs and albums, therefore making who to be included here or there in the categories a daunting task.
In the waiting space is the new scheme in town called the 3MUSIC AWARDS led by industry colleague Sadick Abdullai Abu of 3Music fame. They have their nominations out, they have their venue sorted, the date of the main event is also known but are they feeling the void of the awards noise we are expecting to enjoy or abhor? Is 3Music awards gathering the necessary momentum for their event date slated for 30th March at the Fantasy Dome? Are artistes posting information of their nominations and soliciting for votes from fans and foes alike? Is social media discussing the prospects of who is likely to win this or that when the time is due? Are the ladies looking for the fashion style and the partners they will be stepping out with like it happens with the VGMA when dates are announced for the event? How about publicity of the main show and the exclusives to watch out for on the said date? The tickets need to be sold so the organizers will not owe Jocelyn Dumas like we know happened last year but are they in high demand?
We are very sure the responses will differ based on where you position yourself in the media space. 3Music awards has an exclusive media deal with Multi Media and it was to be expected that other media platforms and some programmes will ignore discussing the event just because of that deal with Multi Media. Something we are still thinking about because should any evil befall the scheme, they will be calling the organizers to speak on these same platforms. At least the few showbiz platforms we monitor are not discussing 3MUSIC awards as expected, few artistes are giving the talking points about the scheme based on their interest. The signs of enthusiasm from fans and artistes are not what we are experiencing. Or may be it
s too early to judge, but the event is on 30th March meaning some 4weeks away from the date maximum. Can we also blame the awards organizers for not availing themselves to the media, thinking about some media tours and interviews to discuss the event? One big question is here, who else speaks for the awards aside Sadick Abdullai Abu who is the main man behind the scheme? Lets find him to support Sadick because the young man has so much on his table.
In conclusion, i pray the industry sees each awards scheme as a catalyst for the whole industry therefore the need to support it to survive no matter the side issues. At least instead of talking about the cliches around Slay Queens and the “Fat something something” expose on snapchat, we can spend some few minutes to discuss how the scheme is doing and what is to be expected on 30th March. By the way, are the organizers also enjoying and benefiting from the partnership with Multi media? Well, it could be that because there is no “monthly bills” for the organizers, no thrills too or vice versa… (LOL)
